The earth itself is not becoming smaller, just the space feels smaller because we are slowly overpolulating it.

As the Earth cools it shrinks just a little. This will go on but the changes is infinitesimally small. But at the same time mountains like Everest continue to grow and be slowly thrust up. The Himalayas can expect a large earthquake about once every thousand years which allows for bigger growth.

It isn't. We are finding more and more of space and by expanding our knowledge and our sights earth only seems to be getting smaller and smaller. As in the sense of the saying "what a small world this is" i think that is because technology has allowed us to communicate with more places and travel to more places than ever before.

Just think of it this way. It could happen that I know your cousin.
It could also happen that the second star to the right and straight on til morning won't ever take that long again.

It isn't. The Earth is becoming bigger and bigger, albeit very slowly. This is due to cosmic particles constantly raining in on our planet, not to mention meteorites and other debris left over from the formation of the solar system some 4.5 billion years ago.
