Thanksgiving is my favorite because we do not exchange gifts. I think if Xmas was the same way, I would like it more. I like how excited kids get but I also hate that there are children who don't get. Especially in the US where there is plenty to go around. Too bad it isn't a holiday where we are more humble and express it that way. Using our more creative side. Where less is more.

I think there are a lot of people who are not selfish and who reach out to those who don't have this time of year. If you feel like you want to do that you can get on the Internet and go to the Salvation Army site and donate enough to make sure a family has a Xmas.

I don't think so either...if we had lived or lives without getting gifts on christmas then we wouldn't mind it but recieving gifts all or lives and then taking them away people would not be happy. IT's sad but Christmas is just so commercialized. It's all about buying the right gift for someone and less about being able to see that person and spend time with them. It's ashame that there are people out there who will judge the gift you give them for it's monetary value.

Absolutely right, most don't know the meaning of Christmas, all they want is the presents. Ask them about the story in Luke and they look at you with a blank eye. It's sad! I wish all the time to go back to when Christmas meant one or two gift and one was usually new clothes. In my family it was the food, special cookies, fresh huge Oranges, cracking nuts by the light of the tree and the fire, listening to carols and even singing them. The icing on the cake was when there was no snow when we went to church and it would begin ever so softly when we left the church.

This is a VERY good question. I think I would like it just as much. I love Thanksgiving just because my extended family gets together to share a meal and play games, watch a movie or just hangout. I would really miss the GIVING part though.

***Now that I think about it, I guess I'm the wrong person to answer this. My birthday is on Christmas Day so I would get presents anyway! :)

Christmas isn't one of my favorite holidays because of the gift giving. People expect more or people feel pressured to buy more. It's just not what I think of as Chirstmas. It's really sad and has taken all the joy out of the holiday for me. I think taking the gift giving out of the holiday would make it better, or at least reform the gift giving.

This might cut down on the amount of depression and stress many people feel during this time. Maybe we should stop the gift giving and focus on the meaning of Christmas: Honoring Jesus' birth!

Without the gifts, there is no giving, and without giving, there is no Christmas spirit. It has a chain effect.

Merry Christmas and God Bless!

Compare it to Thanksgiving. I have tons of friends (I'm 33) that LOVE thanksgiving because they always think of it as a less-stress but very family-centered holiday. And the meaning of Thanksgiving is clear--to give thanks for what we have. Obviously Thanksgiving isn't as big as Christmas, but the fact that it's the birth of Jesus is huge.
