Actually when TV's first came out back in the 50's, there were no quiz shows, lol. Back then, my Dad was a TV Repairman, so we used to have 2 of our own TV's plus about 3-5 more being repaired. The main reason for buying TV's in general back then was just a new form of entertainment with 1-2 stations only, (if you were lucky).

Now, that TV's are so common in everyone's home, the reasons for purchasing a TV are varied due to the wide spectrum of ages and interest of people overall. There is so much available now on so many channels, I do not personally feel that quiz shows would necessarilly be the #1 choice for buying a TV of your own.

Thanks.

Not sure about America, but in England a lot of people bought their first TV to watch the Queen's coronation.

I think they probably did beccause they were sick of sitting around a radio listening to programs...the vision of that happening when my parents were young seems so boring....modern technology will always have us buying the next best thing, VCRS, DVD players and TiVo...what's next, Characters coming into our livingrooms.....?
