because to much homework can cause stress and because if kids can get out more they can let out aggression in sports or just have a good time making them happy so the next day at school they can be calm*er*

Define so much - because I think that homework is an important part of the education process. In school, the student is largely passive - the teacher presents and the student (hopefully) receives. Even in cases where there is interaction, it is action within a group, and in both cases, a student can not know the material, or even think they do know...

Homework is where you find out if you do know. You work alone, and you have to apply what you have been showed in the class. Learning something is first of all getting it in the head, and then practice, so it becomes routine.

Think of driving - you can study the driver's manual, and the rules of the road - but learning to steer the car is something else. Ittakes practice to know where the limits of the fronto end are, it takes practice to know how long it takes to brake - homework.

Assuming the purpose of school is to help students learn a range of necessary skills (skills of thinking and analysis as well as directly practical matters), homework is a necessary part. either that, or we add four more years to high school and three more to grammar school.

(Why do I think this is NOT going to win the Best Answer prize?)

This is against my beliefs of homework, but another good reason for not giving it might be that it takes time away from the child when they could have been spending it with their family. If you really think about it Mom or Dad might not see Jr. very much throughout the day because the kid is in school for 7.5-8hrs, comes home when mom is doing laundry, then mom cooks dinner, then she washes the dishes, then it is time to help Jr. with HW and then send him to bed. Where is the quality family time? A child's homework can be hard on his family too.

The students need more time to get in some exercise which is severely lacking in our society. With the demands of school, many students don't have time to pursue work, exercise, extracurricular activities if they have one or two hours of school work to do after school gets out. I also remember doing school work until late at night thus getting less sleep and not 'on top' the next day...some homework ok, more than 30 minutes, not good.

kids go to school for 7 hours a day - that's long enough , they are just kids - giving a bunch of homework every night is the same as working a 8 hour job and then having to go home and put in another 3 or 4 hours for free.
to much homework just causes stress.

In my opinion homework is just for reinforcement, and for that there`s no need to leave too much homework. Otherwise it will look like the teacher didn't finish the lesson or is behind schedule.

There should be enough homework to review a few questions of what was learned during the day, to test skill retention not to bury them under paperwork.
