This is the thought provoking question asked by the Dear member! Yes... crime enters the politics. it means there is a passport to allow him in to the kingom of the Politics. it reveals that there are loopholes in the process of isueing authority. 1. Threre is no option to chek a criminal duing his nomination papers. 2. there is no clean chit certificate to be issued by the police and other security agences. 3. Constitution of India has not rightly provided norms of entry of a leader in to politics. 4. There is no case study of a criminal before entering the politics... once he the criminal enters the politics ...the mosk is removed and the non veg fox enters to cash the ignorance, illiterary and bribary of the officials and the normal( voter) people of any nation.
Secondly Voting process pays red carpet to the criminal. in the illution of drink and money... one losses the sense of knowledge while voting.
Thirdly: there is no option for the voter to check a criminal by voting in the ballot paper. The voter is active the process fails to accommodate him to index the criminal.

it would depend on what type of crime. And the type of politics. If you take a look at the congress, many of them ARE criminals (drunk driving, assault, etc. ) Take a look at the region in which you live, then speak to a librarian about your questions. They can point you in the good directions for answers.

No witnesses to their crime. and people from their locality support them because they are afraid of them. To become PM you only have to win from your constituency somewhere in remote village and not get vote from entire India like US president. that is the British system.
so if you are a dreaded criminal in say solapur or chinchpokli or gaya, you get elected if you are not convicted in any case and you may become a minister or even PM.
