This is pretty hard, I have done it though.
The primary reason for my success was because I stayed super busy with school and didn't have time to think about it. It is nearly impossible sometimes but, figure out something you can do. just thinking about sex can push you over the edge. listen to music. talk to someone just get your mind off of it.
I don't want to sound preachy but prayer has helped me a lot, even if you feel nasty and unworthy, the love for God, and the love of God can save you, because if you truly love the lord, you will not wish to offend him.
if you have a counselor, and you can talk to him/her (which is really embarrassing I know) he/she can meet with you and keep track of your progress.
to break it down for me - staying busy, vanquishing impure thoughts and having someone to counsel with is the best advice I can give you.
The best thing to do is to try to quit all together it is easy to get back into, it is readily available and addictive as drugs. filter out the media and it's refferences to such material there is no half way.

Has anyone succesfully quit masturbation (preferably wnat to hear from guys)?
For me, no matter how much will i put into it, i get defeated. If someone has a success story, could you offer some advice and how you did it. Don't say with sex, because i'm trying to practice abstinence. I don't know if i want to quit masturbation altogether, but only when the occasion calls for it. For example, right before a physical or something.

Masturbation Frequency:
http://www.jackinworld.com/misc/faqtree1.html#mastfreq
How often does the average male masturbate?
It depends on a lot of factors, the most important being age. For an 18-year-old male, a rough average is once a day or so. This is slightly higher for younger teenagers — maybe 10 or 12 times a week, and slightly lower for older people. You might be surprised by how often adult men masturbate — even happily married men.
I think I'm addicted to masturbation. Is that possible?
It is, although many, many people think they're addicted when they're really just doing what comes naturally. For more on this topic, read the article Is Masturbation Addictive?(http://www.jackinworld.com/library/articles/addict.html).
How can I masturbate less often, or quit altogether?
It's tough; it takes a lot of will power. It can be done, especially if you're driven by very strong religious feelings. However, JackinWorld's position is that it's not worth it. We think you should enjoy the harmless pleasures your body can provide.

There really isn't any need to quit masturbating, unless you're doing it so often it's interfering with your life. It's healthy, and natural--in fact in the absence of sex, it's important in maintaining prostate health. Despite the ancient rumors, masturbating before: playing sports, taking a test, working out, whatever...does not impede your performance.
On the flip side, it's fairly easy to forego masturbating if you have other things occupying your time and energy. During finals week, for instance, jerking off is the last thing on my mind, ha ha. Still, best not to worry about it and enjoy the natural pleasure your body can give you.
Also, congratulations on going for abstinence, as it is a safe course to take. Keep in mind, however, that you can have meaningful sex with someone you care about, and have very little risk of pregnancy or disease, with the proper precautions. Try to educate yourself about your options.

The longest I've ever gone without masturbating was 12 weeks. Thats because I was in Army Boot camp and I didnt have the slightest urge. Maybe there is some truth about the Army putting "Saltpeter" in the food. Other than that I find it sheer impossible. Good Luck though in your pursuit.

One question. Why??? Despite what some religions say, there is nothing wrong with masturbation and provided you're not doing it 20 - 30 times a day it won't hurt you in any way. I and I'm sure millions of guys will agree with me, why give up something that feels good and doesn't cost a thing?

Well, im a guy, and i've been trying to quit, but the longest time i've ever had without it, it's like one week or maybe two.... and also if you quit completely, the wet dreams start again to help the sperm to exit the body.. (And it's even better)... So whenever you want to.. just take a shower with cold water

.... why the hell would you want to give up masturbating in the first place? You're not going to impregnate someone by masturbating, okay? (And that's only if you're into girls.) There's no need to practice "abstinence." *rolls eyes* I'm not a guy, but life wouldn't be worth living if there wasn't sex involved. Frankly, it would suck sh*t. I can't live without masturbating...

I am totally sure that i am going to quit it.I have developed a mild hate towards girls and it helped me a lot.Whenever i see girls i just think like they are just looking for some advantage from me.So i am able to avoid them. And another thing is that masturbation makes me weak and tired. And i dont want to be tired. So hopefully i am quitting masturbation. Its since a week but i really have a lot of confidence that i can quit for years.
