The night we lost our channels we got online and signed up for some company that added new local channels that we can get. Now we don't have to switch companies. I think this will force Dish Network to go under. Why hasn't DirecTV been forced to do the same? What makes them different? Does anyone out there actually understand what exactly happened? I wonder how many people cancelled their Dish Network!!!

@ renate: You missed the whole point. The problem is that both Dish and Direct TV were ordered over a year ago to stop providing ABC, NBC and CBS (from NYC and California) to areas where the local affliate couldn't be seen with an antenna. This encompasses only 3% of the USA. Direct TV stopped doing it then, but DISH kept doing it illegally until a judge recently ordered them to stop providing the service. The bottom line is if your local afflicates cannot be seen with just an antenna, you can't get the feed from another market. You can buy your locals as I do on Direct TV. Write your congress person - this is bad business compliments of cable.

I had Direct TV and it was awful. I switched to Dish and am very happy. I pay for the local channels, no probles, I have had such good service from Dish that I do not want to change again.

Also, read the customer reviews on Direct TV and weep.
