I am Native. I am Tsimpsean from the West Coast of Canada, just south of the Alaska boarder. My personal preference is to be called Tsimpsean. If you are talking about Cree, they probably prefer being called Cree. And so on.
In Canada general terms used are First Nations and aboriginal.
I agree with DJ. If I hear Indian, it reminds me how stupid the user is that still believes we are from India, and since we are from there, and that is here, they think this is India.

Depends on the person... I've heard some prefer one, while another prefers the other. Although most would probably rather be referred to by their tribe/Nation.
