I am a male living w/a compulsive lying male. We are both undergraduate juniors in college. He seemed like a pretty cool guy at first, but after living w/him for 1 week, I began to see he is the biggest/worst liar I've ever met. He fabricates lies that are so ridiculous, it makes it uncomfortable living w/him. I feel sorry for him, but even when I call him out on his lies, he just makes up more lies. Here is a list of the lies I can remember to give u a better picture:
-He is in Senior status (in school) and will graduate this year. He then tells me he has to take the max # of units each quarter & summerschool to graduate this year which shows he is in junior status.
- He use to steal DVD's from Netflix buy telling them the mail lost it, and Netflix sued him for it. I asked if he had to pay anything or go to court and he said no.
- He said he will be making $2K a month at an internship. I ask what is salary is, and he says, "I don't know, I didn't ask."

- He tells me that his first day of interning (this is is 1st internship ever), he audited Reggie Bush's taxes. Later, he started telling me about Shaun Alexander's expenses he saw. Why would these two NFL superstars have their taxes done by a boutique accounting firm in a small town like Irvine, CA?
- Yesterday, he told me that (after 3 months of working there) the firm offered him $60,000 to work there full-time and he turned it down. This boutique accounting firm offers a undergraduate student with 3 months of experience a salary larger than what the Big4 (large firms) would pay their Senior accountant (3+ yrs. experience).
- His friend at his work used to work at Smith Barney (an Investment Bank) for 5 years starting from when his friend was 18. I asked if his friend started as an intern, and my roommate said, "No, he asked for a full-time job and they gave it to him."

So basically, I want to know if I should lose $250 to move out and break the lease, or if i should stay for 9 more months and try to work something out? Like I said, I called him out on his lies, but he thinks he is clever and everyone else is dumb, insisting he is telling the truth.

I've known a few people like that. when they tell me something that would be completely amazing! if it were true, but I know they're lying, I act like they're telling me what they had for breakfast. I think you should move out, though. its not worth having a surge of anger every time this person lies. also, since he's stolen from Netflix and he's a compulsive liar, there's a very good chance he'll end up stealing from you, so you might end up losing more than $250 if you stay.

Well, it depends. Can you tolerate the lies without giving in? To what extent are these lies? Most con-artists...well, you don't know they have lied until you've already been had. It still wouldn't hurt to be cautious. If the lies involve YOU personally(your rep or your finances), definitely check into everything. Don't settle for a sweet demise.

ugh, I knew someone like that... thats is the worst type of person to be around because you never know when they are telling the truth! I would say try to avoid them as much as possible and when they say things you know are lies just be like 'yeah, whatever" like you don't care. Maybe they will stop lying to you. But I doubt it.

Uh yeah I MARRIED somebody like that. I suggest you go with your gut and either move yourself out or do what I call "wait for the other shoe to drop" and catch him in a lie that "matters" (aka get all dramatic about it and kick his sorry **** out.) Nobody should have to put up with that and you have every reason to feel the way you do. Nowadays I wont so much as stand next to somebody who I suspect is like that.

I would stay there and tell him that you can always tell when he is lying, and if he asks how. Tell him when he opens his mouth!!!
