I am 36 years old live at home with my mom. She has bad back problems and cant really live by herself. she and i have become real close friends and i would not change any choices that i have made to be in the position that i am in. The problem is she dont go out that often becuase she is on oxygen and cant walk for long periods of time. she has a scooter but i think she believes it to be more of a hassle than anything else. she loves her grandchildren. she pretty much lives in her bedroom but has a computer that she is loves playing bingo and other games on. she has a tv and radio. she asked me to get her a dvd player. but i dont want to give her something that she asks for.. ( i will give her mine i use my puter anyways). so what do you think.. oh yeah she already has one of those beds that lefts the feet and head. i really want to get her something that she will love and use all the time. what do you think. thanks for any answers that can be provided.

I agree that ready-made store gifts are too common. I don't know what kind of time you have to put something together, but you could scan in some of the best of the old family photos, photos of the grand kids, and maybe some sweet audio clips from the grand kids and burn them onto a DVD or CD (depending on your capabilities). That would be something she can play whenever she feels isolated--and it would show all the people that love her and who are a part of her even if she's at home in the bedroom alone.

Get her a party with her grand kids. Call it Grandma________ day and make it special. A cake with her name and best grandma in the world on it. Some kind of game that she can play with her kids and grand kids. A special day just for her, arranged by you and the ones she loves. Make her the dish she loves the most. On that day, give her a Bible with each kid and grand kid signature in it and a special little note. You cannot buy this gift, it is custom made with love from the ones she loves the most.

I think the gifts in stores are too common, I would give her something that would bring back some good ole memories. I just bought something for my dad, he loves old world items, so I found a magnifying glass with a stand. Check out this site and see if there is anything that might interest you for your mom www.theoldgiftshop.com
Hope this helps.

Why don't you go ahead and get her the DVD; along with it give her some of her favorite movies to watch. Bed jackets, slippers, and/or other personal items would be nice also.
