I found a subsidized apartment for $468 in the state Prosser, Washington that I'm moving in 2 months which is one of the cheapest ones. The problem is that from social security disability I get $635 every month. But after rent and utilities are paid I'm left with $70 a month + food stamps ($152) to survive. With $70 left I have to pay bus transportation every month and buy hygiene supplies and do laundry. Please give me some suggestions, I don't know how I can survive like this, I will never be able to buy any clothes or shoes.

I'm mentally disabled and I can't work, and the government's $635 a month is not enough. I tried talking to the social security supervisors but they won't let me.

My mom's friend pays something like $180 a month for subsidized housing in Placerville, CA.

You just need to find a town with cheaper rent.

Dang, $468 is just too much for rent.

Try looking at some small towns in Texas or Arkansas or in the mid-west.

Good heavens, Is that it. Have you really looked into it . There are no other benefits your entitled too??.
It's tough, but I'm sure it can be done. Are you close by an area where they have Second Hand Shops or Salvation Army.
Places like that have clothing and rather cheaply priced.

I know this may sound cliche, but have you thought of writing a book your own words describing the type of life you are living.
There would be many who are in your situation and you may be able to help them as well.
If your able to send this, you can do anything. Give it a shot

Yeah, the government really can screw disabled people on that one. Well, I used to be on Welfare years ago and they only gave me $109 a month for my infant daughter and I to survive on-AND I had to pay my utilities out of that money-I was usually only left with about 50 bucks, if even that, monthly. I reached out to special programs and such to help like Partnership for the Homeless(they help non-homeless people too, especially if you have a housing subsidy)they helped with pampers, furniture, etc.. I'm pretty sure if you search, you'll find a similiar program for disabled folks, too. Good Luck.

The county social services should pay your rent for you and not just give you only food stamps......

THIS is the exact reason I pay taxes for, to help out people in your situation..... and the Gov pizz it away on other junk.

Maybe find a roommate that can share the expenses but be careful choosing one.

You got some fine advice from several posters. But DON'T fall for the scams from some of the other ones! These people prey on people who are having it rough. I wish you the best! I'm rooting for you to do well.
