Yes. The amount of carbon-di-oxide a tree consumes depend largely on its foliage and green parts. So the shape, size and nature (evergreen/ leaf-shedding) of the tree are the determining factors.
Some calculations are available on the basis of the present rate of pollution, the exact time cannot be estimated accurately. But, yes, we don't have much time and should act fast.
Various measures can be taken to protect our future generation. One is to control the sources of pollution and the other is to plant trees. Not only the trees generate oxygen, but also they control soil erosion, absorb high pitched sounds etc.
