I replaced my thermocouple in a forced air furnace and now it leaks around where the thermocouple connects to the control valve. Can anyone tell me what I should do?

The thermocouple is not crossthreaded. It is coming out around the thermocouple itself not from arouind the threads that hold it in place. Could it be that the little button the thermocouple connects with inside the control valve is pushed back allowing gas to escape?

There should not be any gas coming out from that connection. Check all other connections on that valve and if you are sure it is leaking out at the thermocouple connection you must have over tightened and cracked the valve as gas does not come out of that opening normally so you need a new valve.

Make sure the threads aren't hammered up, make sure it's not cross threaded. If the threads check out, there is a paste specifically for gas lines available at any hardware store. gas only runs between 7-12 psi, if it's leaking its loose, cross threaded, or just not seating right. Tighten and loosen a few times to get the threads to mate.

There should not be any gas around the thermocoupler. It is probably a leak around the base of the pilot platform itself. You need to clean the pilot and adjust the pilot flame.

Buy a new gas valve now! Gas is not supposed to leak there at all!

Purchase Teflon plumbers tape and use that on the threads. Cheap easy fix.
