Unless Robert Gates is the Anti-Christ or the risen Messiah, he will be as unsuccessful as Rumsfeld in achieving any type of freedom or peace in the Middle East.

Middle-Eastern countries have been at odds with each other for thousands of years, annihilating citizens whenever they chose. The U.S., or any other country, is not going to change that.

If the world's oil supply is dependent upon the Middle East, the world will just have to "suck it up" and let the people living in Middle Eastern countries take care of themselves, keep paying a Shiek's ransom for oil, or develop oil supplies closer to home.

When Harry Truman made a choice to unleash an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the future of America was at stake. Japan was a threat to our economic, social, military, and political stability. Yes, Japanese civilians were impacted; but, the military decisions made by the Japanese placed their civilian population in jeopardy. They were aware of the danger, and chose to ignore it in order to gain "world domination".

Iraq did not, nor has not, declared "war" on the U.S. The U.S. government chose to go into Iraq on the pretense of "saving the people", and ferreting out "terrorists". We have saved very few people and ferretted out only a handful of terrorists.

Concerned Americans are obligated to write their state representatives, congressmen, and even the President of the U.S., addressing their approval or disapproval of U.S. involvement in the Middle East.

Gates won't 'achieve' anything more than Dumsfeld did for three reasons:
1) The Bush administration doesn't understand the culture of the Sunni and Shiite conflict that has been going on for 1,400 years, and fails to recognize that it's the U.S.A.'s interference that has led to an Iraqi civil war;
2) The Bush administration doesn't give a damn about bringing democracy to Iraq - it only cares about the OIL profits American companies will glean once the U.S. takes total control of those rich fields of easily-accessible OIL;
3) The nameless, faceless sub-humans who actually control our government from behind-the-scenes will continue to promote and encourage this 'war' so that the giant U.S. military-industrial complex can boost its sagging profits. 'War' is extremely profitable; that's why all the politicians have been bought off, pricey lobbyists have been hired, and special interest groups have been formed to encourage and promote every 'war' this nation has been in since 1950. -RKO-

He's another of your boytoys, just like RED RUMsfeld was. You're really getting even with America for being raped at Skull and Bones. But we didn't turn you into the escapist twerp you are; you're own class did that to you; so why do you keep trying to destroy the American people?
