" I loved working for your company, I just felt incompetent in sales"

Go with the truth! Just dress it up a little.

If they ask why, tell the interviewer that you didn't feel your qualities were best suited in sales. And, you absolutely love the company and believe you can do the best work for them in stocks.

If you attempt to dance around the subject it will show.

Be truthful but tactful. Tell them that you disliked working in sales and why. Something like:

sales was not a good fit
want a different experience
looking for new challenges

Just say " I wasn't the position for me, I didn't find it fulfilling enough "
That is good answer that shows you want to enjoy your work.
