How do you use the sports shift thing on the G35?

Do you have to press the button on the lever? Can you just shift whenever you want?

Your question is kind of confusing, but the G35 autostick shift is really easy to use you simply move the shifter into position and then on the speedo it will change from "D" to whatever gear your are presently in this depends on how fast you were going when you switched it over. So now instead of "D" it should display a number like "3" after you have done that you now have control over the gears i.e. like a manual without the clutch. You now simply push the shifter up and down to enter higher gears or shift down into a lower gear for more power.

i think don"t do it because the sport shift is mostly like the racing transmission.
