there is a new theory gaining creadence- we all know that the vandals sacked it etc, but the real reason was from lead poisoning. They used a chemical from lead as a preservative in their wine. Only the ruling classes could afford this wine, which made them sick and impotent, so they died out, (the ruling classes) and actually went mad, which is where you get all all wild stories of caligula et al from.

mynameis- rome was never a democracy, it had monarchy with arisocracy and senate. egypy and babylon were never democracies (pharoes and kings respectively) Where there were democracies- greece, uk, usa have all lasted. greece over 3000 yrs, uk nearly 1000 yrs and usa in its entire history. dictators come and go- look at nazis, communists, taoists- and you can quote ME on it.

Invaders interrupted their water system. Tore down a section of their aquaduct. No water, no life.

Invaders have come & gone from Rome but with no water and no government to fix the aquaducts, people moved out of the city.
