What was the difference? When French people settled in Canada what factor made it so that they are either Acadians or Quebequois? I know that there is a major difference now, but before? Why did the Acadians get deported and not the Quebecers?

Whoa ... I'm not sure about the phrase Quebequois, except that it refers to people who live in Quebec, mainly French speaking.

But I do know that the Acadians did NOT originate in the U.S. The Acadians were French people who settlled in the section of Canada known as Acadie. They had been there many years before being deported when there was no longer any French control in that part of the word after being defeated by the British in 1755. Many, if not most of them, were sent to other lands controlled by France, such as Louisiana. The Acadians who went to Louisiana became known through usage as Cajuns. They were sent out because they refused to swear allegiance to British. The expulsion is memorialized in Longfellow's poem "Evangeline."

Acadians are Maratimers, Quebecois live in Quebec. It is mostly a geographic differential, however over the course of generation adaptations in culture and society have been made adopting some of the regional traditions and customs.

Acadians were settlers who first lived in the southern US like Louisiana and around there so they have a bit of that Cajun french in them. They were forced out during the revolutionary war and went to Canada - as the war was between the English and Americans and they were French descendants. The Quebec settlers were French settlers who came directly from France.

Whether they lived in Acadia or Quebec. Acadia was Eastern Quebec, the Maritime Provinces and part of New England. It no longer exists as such. Teh Quebequois were West of Acadia.

At least that is my understanding.
