I do have a developed characters in my play but I need some actual plot to keep the dialogue moving and interesting

Look at your characters and think of something one of them would do, that the other would misunderstand. Then you can decide if you want to resolve it or not.

I have a story idea:a dog is caught by the dogcatchers and she is put up for adoption.Nobody wants her and she was going to be put to sleep.In the last day of her life,an old women adopts the dog and decides that she would give the dog a home and love.
One night the grannie is rewarded for saving the dog.Her house burns into flames while she is sleeping but she is woken by the dog and they both manage to get out of the house just in time.

Usually if you add some funny lines in your play it'll be better.
