you need to contact your isp; they'll have the static ip you need to use.

No you probably will not find a file with your ip address
if you truly had a static ip just to "http://myipaddress.com/show-my-ip-address/" and it will give your ip, you can't manually configure a public static ip address.
You are more then likely looking for you internal ip address, so you need to log into to your router, you should find instruction at the dlink web site, just look up you model #. You router should have all that information and you computer should automatically be configure with the right ip it gets from your router.
I suggest that you add more details about your question, it would be helpful.

Well, I am still somewhat of a newcomer to networking, but I had to go through all the static ip bull a few weeks ago. Assuming that you are running XP, go to Run in the start menu and type cmd, this will bring up a black and white text-only screen. At this screen type ipconfig/all. this should tell you all you need to know. And if it doesn't work, chances are its the dns servers, just call your isp and they will give you the correct ones. I hope this was helpful!!

Two ideas for you. One is contact your router manufacturer (web or toll-free phone) if it is not listed in your router manual or like my linksys right on the router. Other is send yourself an e-mail and pull up the full header information. Should find your ip address in there. Hope this helps.

i'm going to give you a lil more advice then what you're asking for .
first reload windows again but this time actually format the hard drive this will keep you from future conflicts on your system
second if you don't know your ip addy just leave the settings on auto detect your puter will find it

Just use an online site like www.displayip.net or www.showip.com to find your public address
