Ohio St vs. Michigan. Some other good ones are Army vs. Navy, Alabama vs. Auburn, and Texas vs. Oklahoma.

They put Auburn and Alabama as the #1 rivalry. Someone must have taken that poll in the state of Alabama because everyone else on the planet knows the #1 rivalry in college football is Ohio St. - Michigan

Aw, am I really the only one going to say I agree with Auburn and Alabama? They're intrastate - the state is split almost 50-50 on the teams and football is more important than religion in Alabama, whether it should be or not. When you move to Alabama, the neighbors are duty bound to ask within minutes of introducing themselves, "So, are you for Auburn or Alabama?"

In Ohio, you have Cincinnati and Cleveland in the same state. You have hockey fans! In Alabama, you are an Alabama fan, or an Auburn fan. In Michigan, you have Detroit, basketball fans and more hockey fans.

In Alabama, marriages are scheduled around the Iron Bowl. Season tickets are contested property in a divorce.

The game is called the Iron Bowl because it was played in Birmingham, once dubbed the Iron City or Iron Capitol of the South, because neither school could agree to playing at the others' stadium. At one point, the state government had to force them to play each other because of their mutual dislike.

Bragging rights are year-round and coaches get fired for losing the game.

People who never attended either school, pay extra for a state-approved Auburn or Alabama license plate.

In a land of religion, where they play football on Saturday so the churches won't be empty, Alabama and Auburn in the Iron Bowl is a yearly installment of the judgement - rapture for the winner and damnation for the loser.

There is no comparison.

Seriously, not to be mean or anything, but these Michigan fans still can't wake up from their dream. Is the Rose Bowl that bad? IF Ohio State and Michigan are the "best" teams in the country, they "certainly can beat" Florida and USC. They both will walk out with the title of a BCS bowl game. One will be #1 in the country and the another one will be #2 (plus the money of two bowls goes to the same conference) So, what's wrong with it?

And to all the people that "matched" teams: those seems more like CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS...

Ohio State and Michigan. They've been playing since 1900 and both teams are great every year.

mithril hawk makes a damn good case for Auburn/Alabama..

However, one of the most intense would have to be Cal/Stanford. The Big Game has been around for over 100 years, and no other sports team in the bay area can claim title to "The Big Game." Plus who can forget "The Play"?

SC and The Irish. The only cross country rivalry there is.

25 national titles between the two teams.

Beat that.
