Yes. Butane and Propane are odorless. Mercaptan is added to them to give them an odor. This is a safety feature to let the customer know when there is a leak. If you run completely out of gas, normally, the company will charge a lineblock fee. This is to ensure that you do not have a leak. However, it is normal when you start getting low, the smell gets stronger.

Butane? Propane is probably what you mean.Absolutely NOT! GO out now theres a valve on the tank turn it clock wise to shut it off and get someone to check the house lines for leaks,Propane has a odor added just for that reason to smell it before you blow it!!

only time you should smell propane is if you have leak or if a pilot light is out, that's why they put the "smell"in propane.almost empty or empty has nothing to do with smell.

Yes that is the oder added to your gas you smell
the gas itself has no smell so they add oder to natural and tank gas. what we thinkg is smelling gas only the oder. When the tank gets low there so much more of the additive and you smell it stronger.
