i was wondering if Godin is a good brand...i was looking at the Godin Detour because its just within my budget....is there other guitars that are the same price but better?

Godin is an excellent guitar built with high quality wood and using name brand electronics. Dollar for dollar you get a better guitar than you would if you bought a more familiar brand. Chances are that some of the wood on your "name" guitar came out of the Godin factory. Check out the link , they've got some gorgeous stuff.

I think you are looking in the right direction with godin, also look into switch guitars as they are a very inexpensive neck through body type of guitar. For me I am an ibanez guy but thats just me.

the godin is an okay brand, but they look like strat or ibanez copies.
go for ibanez or fender not made on US. its much cheaper($400 vs. $1200)

Godin's a pretty good product. I imagine at that level, any comparisons are just going to reflect "popularity", so just go by your instinct from there....

Look on musiciansfriend.com and check out some of there guitars. Some of them are cheap and brand names.
