My bestfriend has been on birthcontrol for three years, but even before she started taking it, and now at times when she stops taking it for a few months, she doesn't get pregnant. This concerns her because she told me that she and her husband have sex at least four days a week, twice a day or more. Could it be that she has found some really dependable birthcontrol pills or that she just cannot conceive? Her husband is definitely fertile cuz he has kids from his past.

Several factors
1) BCP takes time to get out of your system. It can also take anywhere from a month to 6 months or more for your body to regulate itself and start doing what it should once you get off bcp. She shouldn't be messing around by not taking it one month and then taking it again the next - she's really going to screw her hormones up. Either take it, or don't.

2) If they are having sex several times a day there is a chance they are depleting his sperm count. It takes 3 days for sperm to mature and while the sac doesn't empty every time, if they're having sex that often then they aren't giving the sperm time to mature properly. Immature sperm can't penetrate an egg, and no egg penetration = no baby.

3) Just because he has managed to have children before does NOT mean he still can. Sperm are rather delicate and the smallest of changes can damage his count/motility/morphology. Never plan on that!

It takes several months after stopping the pill for your cycles to become regular again so if she were to go off the pill for 6 months to a year she should be able to get pregnant. If she doesn't get pg after a year then she should discuss it with her dr.

tell her to see a fertility doctor or just go in for a pap and talk to her gyno about her desire to have a child
