A friend with benefits is someone you are friends with (obviously) but the two of you have mutual sex, without any emotional ties to each other. It's best if you both have an understanding that it is just sex, and there will be no feelings involved, although it seldom works out that way. There usually is one person that will develop feeling, and/or jealousy, and it will eventually put a strain on the friendship and make things weird and awkward, and sometimes ruin it completely. With that said, it's probably best not to take a friendship to that level if you want to keep said person as a friend in the long run, and unless it's for the possibility of a relationship.

A "Friend with Benefits" is someone who you get to 'mess around' with (ie, make out with, have sex with and the like) without the added emotional attachment. However, not many people get to avoid the emotional attachment so be careful if you get yourself into this situation.

a friend with benefits is a friend that you do sexual things with but with no strings attached no relationship no commitment it is supposed to be really uncomplicated just to have sex or make out or whatever but usually it ends up being a really complicated and completely unpleasant situation.
