I consider this an absolutely brilliant book. I've read it four times and it still makes me laugh.

I believe it's a satire to some extent. The tragedy is that John Kennedy O'Toole killed himself before his genius could be realized. I must say, this is one of the funniest books I've ever read. I re-read it almost once a year and inevitable I'll start laugjing out loud on the subway and get some strange glances. There is no other character in literature quite like Ignatius J Reilly.

I think this book shows that there's a thin line between tragedy and comedy.
