I have a party I am going to this weekend and really wanting to get fake nails. I have never had them before. I know I like the french manicure look. What is the difference with acrylics, gel and tips type nails? Which one is more durable? I know of my friends that have had nails and can just pop them off when they don't want them anymore, curious to what those are also? I don't want to have to go get them "removed".
BTW, please no one tell me not to get them. I know I want them and know all the risks.
Thanks, Emily

I get the white tips with pink acrylic powder. It depends on how good the product is as to how long they will stay on for. They usually say to get a fill every two weeks but I can go three weeks before I go back. I have had them for about 17 years now and I have NEVER had any issues.

Have fun at your party.

P.S. my daughter always got them for her dances at school. They looked really nice.

Acrylic naisl are easier to remove. Soak them in acetone.
Gel nails need to be filed off, as they are acetone resistant..
Whatever you do DO NOT pop them off. THat is the worst thing you can do for your natural nails! You can soak them off at home easily enough. Therefore, acrylic is more suited for temporary application.
Gel nails will generally give you the most natual looking enhancement. The gel cures under a UV lamp and are totally clear. Your technician can either use a white tip that they glue on your natural nail, or use white gel and nail form to "build" a tip out from your natural nail. Either technique can be used with either enhancement. Either is good. Gel has a high gloss finish and requires no more buffing or polish, where as acrylic generally does. If your tech is good and is using proper product, it can be just as good.

Acrylic tends to dry out, becoming more brittle over time. Gel nails have more flexiblity, so can often be thought as more durable. They are comparable in that aspect.

Ask your technician if they do "party tips". Often these are tips glued to your your nails and aresin placed over to smooth. These are often called temporary tips (less duarble, easy removal, etc.)
In general, there is no risk in the acrylic or gel product themselves. The problem comes from your technician doing things incorrectly, or using inferior product. Spend a little time, and make sure your technician is licensed and insured in your area. It is worth the extra money.

Recommendations...do not clip your nails before you go...do not let your tech use an electric file on your natural nail to "prep" them...make sure their tools are new (if disposable) or sanitized and disinfected before they are used on you...If you feel any heat while they are filing, STOP, and if your tech causes you pain or bleeding,STOP!

Good Luck on your new beautiful nails!

I like the acrylics. They last for about 3 week sometimes 4 if the right person does them. They do not just pop off though, you have to get polish remover and really work at it to get all the glues off. If your party is this weekend you need to go ahead and get them tomorrow so you can have time to get use to them. Depending on the length you get, you will need time to adjust to them. Personally I like to get them painted clear and the tips airbrushed a color. I like baby pink , or dark red. It different from the everyday French look.

the easiest nails to get are ones from walgreens...they already have glue on them. All you do is press them on your nail. They only last three-4 days but the french manicure one look really real and I have used them for everything from homecoming to parties. The best part is that htey dont ruin you natural nails at all! all that stuff at salons just weakens your nails. Also nails that you glue on yourslef - the glue stays on your nails for a long time. The best ones are the adhesive ones. try them!

I never really knew the difference but i do know i get the acyrlic its just standard i believe. Gel is more expensive and supposed to give your nails a more glossy finish but to me it looks the same and i prefer acyrlics.
i think the ones your friends have are the ones you can buy at target or walmart that come in a package and you just glue on o your nails.
ehh and about getting them removed. if you go get them done at a salon your either going to have to attempt to take them off your self [[i like to bite my nails so thats how i do it, my friends use clippers and nail polish]] or go get them to proffesionally taken off which i hear really hurts.
if you get the glue ones on, they usually fall off by themself and are virtually unpainful to take off.
