OMG why do SO many people here like runescape!? It's really not that great....
Anyway, if you want to try it out go right ahead, but consider this too:

Both are F2P and have optional item shops where you can spend money to buy superior items if you'd like to, but it is not necessary to play the game, nor will it remove enjoyment from the game if you choose not to purchase anything as few people do.

Runescape extremely sucks... all these people must suck at good games to like runescape. A good one is maplestory, survival project, a great one is called Raganok. Its not free if you play in the private servers but they have 5 public servers so you can play it without paying. Its 3-D and has great classes you can choose. Another game that is ok...is Gunbound, 2d-ish fun game that is addicting.

Heres a good online RPG game. Its a multiplayer game too.
Its called Zeus' Legacy.
Free,fun,worthwhile,and non-download.

guild wars is a good game with good graphics and nice gameplay, its free and they do hollidays with great class and fun. The replay ablity is pretty high although the expansion pacts are quite lacking, the orignal game though is great fun.

As someone mentioned before, MapleStory is awesome,
It's a korean game, and because I'm korean, I played it a while back. But now that it's so popular they made an english version.
It's really really really really good.
