I really don't know, but if I were to guess, I'd say that to live simply means to be alive and exist, for instance trees live. But life, that is more of a doing word, what you do, just a guess. Oh yes and of chourse as cubeecab pointed out f and v. Also life refers to a duration. What did he do in life?

Life is a noun, it is when you are alive; Live is the verb tense of Life, so the difference bewtween these two words is the tense (noun, adj., werb, etc.) of it.
