Your eyes can get sunburned, just like your skin, eventually causing permanent damage, that's why it hurts, it's a warning to stop.

i did, for like, a looooooooooooong time, --only it was foggy, and you could look directly at the sun- it was AWSOME~
and plus, if you look at the sun with bear eyes, and no protection, it could cause permanent damage.

yeah like just to see how long you can look at it without blinking or something. then when you finally look away you cant really see anything without seeing spots for the next 5 minutes.
