Sound is a mechanical wave.
Sound needs a medium to travel. Air, water, whatever, as long as there are molecules to move back and forth, transfering energy to one another until it reaches the other end.
Light is an electromagnetic wave, it doesn't need any medium to travel.)

Sound waves travel thousands of light years slower than the light we see at present. So far away it cannot be picked up by our antennas.

No particles in space for sound to travel...
However light doesn't require a medium,hence you can see it.
