I looked this up and couldn't find a clear answer. Someone who asked this question had a close vote yes and no. And if I can't use a GBA Link Cable, can I still use a regular GB Link Cable with the SP? I have one somewhere, but the GBA Link Cable would me more convenient.

Yes and No...

Yes if it is an older link cable some of the newer ones don't work on old gameboy games with an advanced gameboy

No... if you have used any and I mean any gamesharks actionreplay or anything to mess with the game you will not be able to even trade between old games with new systems even if you have an old link cable...
