We'd be part of the United Kingdom, and have a socialist government, and taxes would be astronomical, and run-on sentences would be illegal.

The constitution is the legal contract between the people and the government. It spells out what rights are reserved unto the people, what the government can and cannot do. We couldn't function without it. We wouldn't be a government of the people, we would be a government of some of the people. Maybe we'd have a king, or a dictator, or maybe even a president, but when we wanted redress for some grievance against our rights, to what could we refer. We need some document call it Constitution or Magna Carta or what have you.

America happens to have a written Constitution, which has served us well by the way, however, the basis of "American" justice and government is closely linked to Great Britan, who has an "unwritten" Constitution. Read Locke, or Montisque or any of the 17th century philosphers. I think we would be much the same- if the nation as a whole was the same.

The states would of never united and what we consider the United States would not have existed. We may have continued as a confederation of independent states much like Europe was until the formation of the EU.
Many of the states declined to sign the Constitution unless a specific "Bill of Rights" was included and several states signed with the right to secede at a later date. (Look what happened when they did. A immoral war of aggression, but that is another story)
New York was one of them and one of the most demanding in signing the Constitution.
It is a interesting study and subject to research.

The constitution is the cement that holds our country together. With out the constitution we would be a mess. It keeps things in balance and gives us our rights. The govt is already to strong and the constitution is to give citizens freedom.

Be careful what you ask for.
Bush is getting Congress to approve his new secretary of defense who's scary. -- he's called "The Gates of Hell". Years ago, Bill Gates was nearly indicted on the Iran Contra affair for lying to Congress for skewing intelligence. He actually negotiated to keep American hostages as prisoners during the iran hostage affair. He illegally advocated bombing the Nicaruagan ports.
He is a war hawk who is expected to send more troops to Iraq. which is guaranteed to escalate the battles and lead America to further wars.

Richard Nixon's stuffed head would be president. The electoral college would itself not face election. Dick Cheney would be VP.
