I would only wish people Merry Christmas for about a week before christmas and a day or two after.

It depends how often you see them. If you see them once a year wish them merry christmas no earlier than About two weeks before christmas. If you see someone every day it doesn't make sense to wish them merry christmas until a few day before christmas. Anytime after christmas makes it too late.

I would say after Christmas Day its too late to say Merry Christmas. If it is someone you will see before Christmas you might want to hold out for awhile. If you won't see them before Christmas you can say it a few weeks in advance...I really only say Merry Christmas to people (other than like the week before Christmas) if I am feeling in the Christmas spirit.

New Year's Eve....would be alittle late to wish Merry Christmas.....though the meaning (from a Christian standpoint) can never be too late....."wishing someone the happiness of Christ's Mass.....the actual translation. Too early?.....hmmmm under the above meaing....it could be used as a general Christian greeting so......never too early, never too late.
However, New Year's Eve for general society/faiths and probably the Day after Thanksgiving..."when Santa lights up most city lights staring the "tradional" beginning. (Sorry it's so long!)

Too late--December 26. Too early -- before Thanksgiving....unless you feel as though you may not see this person again for a while and you wish them "happy holidays",in which case I believe Thanksgiving and Christmas are included--even New Years(depending on how technical you prefer to get).
