All of England, including Anne and the king, were Catholic. When the King wanted to divorce Catherine (his wife) to marry Anne, he could not because the Catholic church would not let him. So he broke with the Catholic church and founded a new church altogether- the Church of England- which was similar to Catholicism except that it did not have connections to the pope or the church hierarchy and it allowed his divorce.

By the way, Catholic is a type of Christian. Most Christians are either a form of Catholic (Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox) or a form of Protestant (Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopalian, etc). So your question should be : Was she Catholic or Protestant.

I'm not sure where people like Mormons and Church of Christ fit in, although they are also a type of Christian.

Catholics are Christians. In fact, at the time that Anne was born, nearly all Christians were Catholic.

Did you mean to ask if she was Catholic or Protestant?

She. like Henry VIII, was brought up Catholic. When Henry divorced his first wife, he was ex-communicated and started The Anglican Church. All of his subsequent wives would have had to become Anglican as well.

Of course, the only real differences between the Anglican Church and the Catholic Church back then would be that Anglicans could divorce and remarry -- and that Henry, not the Pope, was the head of the Church.
