I distinctly remember one winter, very close to Christmas my dad reading the newspaper online ('El Heraldo' from Colombia. Only way we can read it) and he came across the saddest story...

There was this girl my age at the time (10) and she wrote to the mayor of Cali. She asked if he could please just give her the one thing she wanted for Christmas, just for THAT NIGHT... electricity in her house.

She said that her dad walked out on them a long time ago, and that she, her mom, little sister, and little brother could barely manage with only the mom working.

She cleaned up in her school cafeteria after all the other kids left for extra cash. She took any leftover food to her family, even the smallest thing, too.

She actually considered suicide... a TEN YEAR OLD! Why? So her mom would have to care for 1 less child.

Turns out, her mom did, too.

On that letter, she put her phone number. So my mom grabbed the international calling cards and dialed.

*AFTER INTRODUCTIONS AND STUFF*

My Mom: Is there anything you want for Christmas?

Her: Just the lights in my house, that's all ma'am.

My Mom: Nothing? At all? No toys, anything?

Her: No, no. It's fine. Thank you anyways.

My Mom: Don't worry about it, we'll pay for it.

Her: Well... I sort of want a pair of roller skates.

My mom: In-line?

Her: It doesn't matter, really.

My mom: In-line it is. What about your siblings?

Her: My sister says she wants a Barbie Doll. My brother wants a Hulk toy.

My mom: Sure! No problem.

Me: I want to talk!

*MY MOM PASSED ME THE PHONE*

Me: Hi.

Her: Hi. You sound nervous!

*AWKWARD PAUSE...*

Me: I do?

Her: I guess...

Me: You know... you were in the newspaper. You're getting your lights and toys. And some other stuff too!

Her: Other stuff...? What do you mean?

Me: Just wait, you'll see...

THEN THE CARD RAN OUT OF MINUTES

Um...the thing is, the electric company (PG&E) will provide electricity when there are children in the house. There are also other government agencies that help provide necessities to families so that they do not have to do without these kind of essentials.

So after your mom grabbed the international calling cards and dialed, did you guys help the little girl out?

Convey that emotion you felt into the tale and/or person. No, you are now not by myself however you could turn out to be that approach if you're the one one crying while that occurs within the Story line.

Very sad just another example of terrible inequality in the world. Let's just hope soon that this will be corrected.
