I would say that the way to turn a metaphorical stumbling block into a stepping stone is the same way you turn a literal stumbling block into a stepping stone: think it through, then follow through one step at a time. You look at the obstacle, analyze it, check out all of the angles, then use that information to figure out how you can get over it. Some stumbling blocks are small so you can step over them. Take for example, having to save $100 to buy a book you need for your job. You save from your paycheck and buy the book in 2 weeks: easy problem, easily solved. Others are so big that you have to get out the rope and climb it the way you would a bolder or mountain. The example here would be needing an advanced degree that may take 5 years to obtain that you have to scrimp, save, and struggle time-wise to get. Either way, the lessons you learn and skills you develop in getting over that stumbling block will help you to get past future obstacles, thus becoming a stepping stone.

Well after I am done being annoyed with it, I try my best to accept it rather than fight it. It is usually at that point that I see the stone in a new light - my mind is free to see it at a new angle or in a more positive way when I don't try to fight it.

By realizing that the things that bother us and trip us up are really quite simple if we slow down and look at things from all sides. Think of people that truly have problems, the handicaped for instance and compare our silly problems to that.

Jump on it and stomp it down to size. It is only a temporary thing. If nothing else, go around it. You are human, you are mobile it is static. I know we are talking metaphors here but think about it. I may be right.

either kick it to the side and keep on moving forward, or completly jump over it a run ahead. either way, leave it behind and set your mind on the target. it may seem far away, but it will get closer and closer day by day. patience! that's really what you need
