Sounds like a great idea. If Canada can afford it why can't the United States?

Heathcare is one of the largest expenses an employer has. One way to make this country economically competitive is some form of universal heath care. Remember, there are about as many different schemes as there are (civilized) countries.

Ours is the ONLY one among the major industrialized countries that does not have any. I know, there are many scare tactics used by lobby groups like the AMA and such, but they are just trying to protect their on narrow interest. I grew up in the Netherlands, and served in the US Army in Germany. These two countries have totally different heathcare systems, and THEY BOTH WORK.

There may be better care AVAILABLE in this country, but waht difference does it make, if the majority of the people cannot afford it.

Congess has consistently voted against universal heath care, yet THEY have the best FREE HEALTHCARE for for themselves. If they can have it, why not the rest of us?

On a lighter niote, a final Funny:

"I understand that if someone in Canada gets sick, they can go the the hospital, and the Canadian Government pays for it.

What a great system! We should have the same system in this country: You get sick - You go to the hospital, and the Canadian Government pays for it"

Hate socialized medicine. You go to school, you study and do well, you get a good paying job you get good insurance. You screw around, don't study, come away with a crappy, low paying job can't afford insurance... You reap what you've earned. It shouldn't be up to the tax payers to cover for the non-performers. I've worked hard, I paid my way. Should I get injured or sick, I shouldn't have to share a room or worse yet, find myself on an open ward with a bum. This is why I've worked hard, so that I can enjoy a little priviledge.

I am in favor of universal health care. Those who cannot afford insurance tend to fall through the cracks and do not receive necessary medical care. Nearly all hospitals cannot deny treatment to someone who can't afford it, but these people also do not receive necessary preventative care.

good or bad?

bad. same reason as welfare became a bad thing. not that the idea was but it was taken advantage of. and the same thing woulf happen with universal health care as well there would be massve abuses by alcoholics, drug addicts, smokers, obese people ect.
