in the new games that will be released in months, diamond and pearl, as i understand it, you CANNOT trade from gba to ds.

you can, however, upload the pokemon from your gba (ruby, sapphire, emerald, fire, and leaf only) onto your pearl or diamond.

after you put the pokemon onto the DS chip, it cannot go back to the gba game, as i understand it

yes it can, according to the website,you have to put the gba cartridge in the slot for it in the DS
