Teethers are all very ackward and he is not coordinated enough yet to hold them and chew, so I have to hold them for him. He is not eating solids yet (I will start when he turns 6 months), so I don't want to try the frozen bagels or dry apple slices. I am going to try a frozen washcloth which a friend recommended. Any other ideas? Thanks a million!

So am I supposed to freeze the cloths in the ice box or just cool them on the refrigerator?

I used little homeopathic teething tablets that you can het from the grocery stor with all 3 of my children and they worked way better than a teething gel. The tablets dissolve in their mouths quikly and they are all natural. In addition to that, I'd do the washcloth thing. Good Luck!

One of the best things I've found were teethers. He'll get the hang of holding on to it, just be patient. He'll enjoy the time with mom or whoever helps him try to hold on to it.
The baby gum numb stuff is great but you have to apply it very lightly. Sometimes they'll swollow some and it will numb their throat as well, so if you feed him after he may not feel it very well and possibly choke. Not saying that's a definite thing, but could.
I hope you can find something to help you with the baby. It really bites when you know they hurt and you can't really give them a more permanent fix.

With our son we used like your friend said a frozen washcloth alot, a teether that you freeze shaped like a popsicle so it was easy to hold. You can find this at any store. Also your fingers! When he was really sore we'd let him "gum" our fingers and it would help him a lot! Good luck it won't last forever!

you could try baby oragel. works wonders. i also found out that if you dont chill the teething ring he might chew on it longer. also gerber has a product called the orbi- teether while you would still have to hold it it doesnt need to be chilled and it has a bunch of different textures.
hope this helps

Instead of the frozen wash cloth, you could just stick a wet cloth in the fridge for a little while, the freezing might be too cold for their gums, and hands.

with my oldest he started teething before solids too, i would wet a wash rag in cold water and then rap a peice of ice in it and hold it for him to chew.
also you can buy these neat rags/toys with rubber teathing ends my sons loved them.
(i wouldnt use those "water" filled teething rings the ones you buy and refrigerate that are made with "water" inside because they can pop while the baby chews on it and i just dont trust that its "water" inside those things.)
also i would let them chew on my nuckle (just bend your index finger and let them naw at your nuckles) (if you pretend that it hurts they will get a kick out of it and take there mind off the tooth pain)(mine loved it)

Humphrey's pills work great. You can get them from the pharmicist, and they just melt in their mouth and take away the pain. They're good for colic as well.
Wash your hands and let him gnaw on your finger. That works well too.
And, oragel and tylenol are always great standbys!
