That's a very broad question, akin to "how does the sun affect life on Earth"... Could you be a little more specific?

Mmm,.. more then one way.

First off,.. how many kids you know like Poke'mon or did like Poke'mon. Well man I love Pocky and it's best when made in Japan. So there is that whole buying the best / most desired from another country by citizens... which works best if the Countries have a relationship
...your not supposed to have Cuban Cigars because the United States of America decided they didn't like Cuba,.. therefore it's supposed to be illegal. However this does seem to have strengthened Illegal activties between countries some how. Much more money from Illegal Drugs for certain Countries,.. they aren't the first, only, and last country to have such a thing happen,.. Japan use to be a source for the Opium Market.

Now,.. when some place wants to make Electronics, Appliences, or Cars,.. they find themselves buying the tiny pieces from other countries. Fuel also can come from another country that something needs when it's complete or as part of it's movement. Then there are times someone in a country wants to make things but for mass productions they must be produced in ANOTHER Country.

When it comes to fighting and terrortory,.. it's good to have entire Countries as your friends and allies.

But the point to allo thise production is the items end up with Consumers all over the Earth because Culture in their countries have become accepting of these, exposed to these, or devoloped to includ these Products.
