A marriage, in essence, is a government contract between two people to join as a united financial entity. Since having legitimate progeny is not the primary goal of marriage any longer (DINK couples are on the rise), the argument that a marriage is meant as a foundation to create a family isn't solid any longer. Also, a gay couple can create a stable foundation adopting a child who would not be adopted otherwise, so even the goal of legitimate heirs gets tossed, as well.
Now, there is no reason that religious institutions have to recognize a gay marriage, but the United States should not be allowed to deny civil marriages between same-sex couples because disallowing the marriage denies American citizens their promised equality under the law. Considering that once-upon-a-time people of difference ethnic backgrounds couldn't legally marry (separate but equal), we cannot hold ourselves as a society of equals if we deny equality to all citizens.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one. Inter-racial marriage doesn't go against the Definition of marriage as it was back when it was being opposed. Marriage has been between a man and a woman since the dawning of america. I can see parallels in the bigotry of those opposed, but I don't agree they're necessarily the same thing. And I don't think marriage is an absolute right. I mean back when inter-racial marriage was being opposed it was more than just marriage that other races were being denied. - right to vote, - right to drink from the same fountain, - right to send kids to the same school, Separate but equal turned out to not be so equal. But that's not what's happening to gays presently. I can see both sides of the argument here. on one sid you have those who want gay marriage b/c they think that's what = rights mean. and on the other there's those who fear change. personally I don't care on way or the other. but I wish people would stop bringing up this issue so frequently.

Strongly agree and no i am not gay and I am a strong believer in God but if 2 people want to get married then so what? In the state that i live same sex marriages are not allowed but they just passed a law to where as almost anyone can carry a gun. Now do you not see anything wrong with this picture.

It seems to be an abnormal marriage. Whether the married lifte will be good and protected, I am doubt. Though both the partners have the right to pick up what they like.Cohabitation is better than
liegalization.

Disagree. What they do in private is none of my business, but whether you agree or not, it IS considered a moral issue to many. I am tired of people pushing their gay agenda down my throat, and forcing their ideology upon my children. So, if they keep it private, I don't care. When they flaunt it before me and my family, and especially when they expect the government to legally recognize sexuality, they've gone too far. This is NOT the same as civil rights. Civil rights refers to recognizing basic HUMAN rights, and sex has nothing to do with it. Gay marriage is requiring the legislation and civil protection of sex acts.

If its love its love people are just going to have to live with the fact that there are people that are homosexual. I don't have any problem with it. I have met many people that are "gay" and they are some of the nicest people! Personally I like guys coz they're gorgeous (at times) but guys might think that about other guys and that fine with me i can share lol! I don't understand why people have a problem with it, if your straight then it's not like you have to marry a gay if you see one. Treat everybody equally I say, I mean gays are hilarious and are a lot of fun.

Love is love.
If we live in such a free world, why is this even an issue?
If two people love each other, they should be free to express that through marriage, no questions asked.
Who are any of YOU to decide that a couple can't get married just because they're gay?
You make me sick.

I aprove of the same sex marriage just because if you love someone it doesnt matter if your a girl and a girl getting married or a man and a man getting married. As long as your in love and happy thats all that matters.
