I have my math final on Mon (the 11th) and I really want to pass that damn thing, all I need is an 80% if I want to have a "B" in the class. The thing is I am not too good with the studying thing. Can anyone PLEASE give me good math studying tips? I am horrible at the word problems especially. My math profesor gave us a tip, but I odn't feel like it can help. How can make reading 11 chapters into a short, but useful way of studying? So, I can hit the parts that I have most trouble with? My grade depends highly on this final so anything will help me right now. Please and thank you!

my best advice would be to do as many practice problems as you could. Because if you think about it, all the questions have the same concept, they're either just worded diffenetly or have different numbers. So, if you practice all sorts of problems, and learn the concepts, you'll do fine! good luck!

If you are weak at the word problems, here is a tip:

1 read them carefully

2 make notes of the whole thing, focus on the numerical data - numbers, percents..... try to pick everything that is related to numbers in the text, makes notes of the variables like a is 6, b is 7, c is 9, etc.

3 read the question - that will tell you which variable is asked

4 look into the text again for missing elements

5 write down the problem in mathematical form

It is all a kind of "translation story". Translate and it will be easier to solve. It will look like any other mathematical problem.
And sleep well before the day cause for this translation thing, especially for the right "translation"... you will need a fresh mind and a lot of concentration. Good luck.

I think solving practice problems, many problems is the best way to study for math tests. You get much better and much faster with practice.

Why do you need to read 11 chapters? If you read them before, then just flip through pages and "recognize" the formulas. After chapters, they usually have problems. Try and practice with those. If you absulotely have to read them, you have 5 days to do so. Read 3 chapters in the first day, solve some practice problems. See how it went. If it went well, plan to do the same every day till monday. (If you are super organized you'll be done on Sat.) You can do it. It's called cramming and I'm experienced at it.

Have you been taking exams throughout the semester? Look back on your homeworks and exams and figure out what questions you got wrong. Then go through that particular material in the textbook since that's the most likely to give you trouble.

Alternatively, if you think you can get 80% by doing well on what you've already done well then you could have a different strategy and reread those sections since you know that you can get them right.
