When I went in for my ultrasound I was bleeding (the reason for the ultrasound). When he was doing the ultrasound from the outside (requested by my doctor), he decided that he needed to also do it from the inside, which was not requested by my doctor. He didn't explain why, just that he felt it was necessary. He also asked me if I was on birth control (which I am), and whether or not I had recently switched. I've been very worried that he may have found something, but I'm also curious as to the significance of his birth control question. Any ideas??

The doctor also listened to the ultrasound when checking my ovaries. What is the significance of the sound?

The reason he was listening to the sounds from the ultrasound was to hear the blood flow. If there was something affecting the blood flow in and around your ovaries he could hear the changed sound of it. Such as a twist or clot causing a partial blockage. Or even if there was a cyst that encompassed the vessel it would change the sound.

I would put a call in to the nurse at your doctor's office and see if they have any results back yet. (unless it was today or yesterday- give them a few days).
I'm not sure of the significance of the BC question - other than possible things to look for - ie. cysts, tubal pregnancy, impending ovulation, etc.
Good Luck

A vaginal ultrasound allows the tech to visualize the uterus and ovaries better in some situations - it doesn't need to be ordered that way by a doctor (at least that is the case where I work). He may have asked you about birth control because that can cause abnormal bleeding when you first start or change birth control.

I hope that everything turns out well for you.

They actually do both. A pelvic ultrasound actually gives a better picture.. If they were looking for something or did find something it will give a better picture.. I'm not saying that did or didn't they should have discussed it with you right after having it done.

Are you on birth control to regulate your body because of ovarian cyst... If you are its normal to have both.. I have to have them every two years to make sure.. everything is going fine.

My dr never listened to the sounds she always looked at the results... I would definately ask the dr about that. Maybe he was looking for an echo. I don't know.. you are really going to ask him./her

I had one done, and it was both outside and in. The birth control question is very relavent to the bleeding issue. You should not worry until you hear from your doctor. It does you no good to worry, when it may be for nothing. : - )

I`ve had one done, & it was both outside & inside. I promise you, it`s nothing to worry about. The reason he would ask you about birth control is to asertain about your bleeding. It`s a relavant standard type of question. I know it`s difficult not to worry, but things will be ok. If you don`t get your results soon, phone up for them.

Good luck....

don't read too much into it. birth control and switching pills can make you bleed irregularly. try not to stress my dear, the results should be available soon, OK? The doc will call if there is anything that needs to be followed up on.
