Sponges have strong powers of regeneration, [ probably due to the interchangeability of their cells, and to their lack of special tissues.]

since they lack specialized tissues, their whole mass is made from the same type of cells/tissues allowing them to have a basic way to heal, repair, and regenerate.

Contrast with mammals that have highly specialized tissues and not all parts will regenerate. cut your finger and the cut heals. cut off your finger and you don't grow a new one because there were too many specialized structures to remake that the body was never intended to regrow.

to me it sounds like sponges have the ability to grow back if it's damaged or something along those lines because it has simple cell structure it doesnt take a lot to heal and replicate new cells
