Menstrual cramps can change. If you have been under a lot of stress recently then you may get cramps that are more severe than normal. So yes this could just be your normal period.
If you are pregnant you may feel some cramping as well as your uterus expands but this is not usually very severe at this early stage of pregnancy.
I suggest you take some time to sit and relax, have a warm- but not hot bath and maybe take some medication to help ease the cramping. If you want a natural therapy try cramp bark otherwise if you go to your local chemist they should be able to help you out with medications that are designed to relieve menstrual cramping. If you are worried that you could be pregnant then discuss this with the pharmacist so that you know you will get something that is not going to cause problems.
If you do not have your period within a week then talk to a doctor, or if the cramps become too painful.
If there is a possibility that you are pregnant then you should see a doctor if you are likely to be more than 9 weeks pregnant and you start to get bleeding. If you are going to loose a baby at this stage then you may need a curette. If you are earlier than this then unless the pain becomes unbearable you should be fine, it is very common to loose a baby at this stage and not at all likely to be a problem.
The other possibility, if the pain becomes too intense is appendicitis. This is something that can be incredibly dangerous if your appendix bursts so, again if the pain becomes too unbearable or you do not get your period it is time to see a doctor. Usually the pain for appendicitis is right sided- although not always and it can feel very similar to severe menstrual cramps.
I hope this helps.

Well I think that ALL women know what period cramps feel like. If they feel like THAT then yes probably so. If your time of the month this month is a little off then this is ok. It's perfectly normal...it happens sometimes lol. But if you start skipping some then you may need to see a doctor.

Not nescessarily.. especially if you don't have any children. If they aren't menstral cramps it could be your uterus expanding (if you are pregnant) If you are really late and aren't normally I would visit the dr just in case. Especially if your period doesn't come soon after the cramps.. You could have a serious problem that needs immediate medical attention.. Yahoo answers isn't a good substitute for medical professionals. =) Good luck.. Hope you feel better!

It depends on where the cramps are. It can be a sign and there will be spotting soon if it is. I would feel more comfortable though if you would go talk to your mom or another female that you can trust, even the school nurse or you doctor.about what is going on.

Your body could be getting ready to bleed. The way to know, is this usual for you or different? I assume it's different, since your asking the question. Is there any reason you could be pregnant?
It is difficult to diagnose your symptoms without getting a check up with your doc, if your concerned.
