Ya, I just don't think most people care anymore. Too many of the 'I don't believe in God yet I'm gonna celebrate his day' people out there with their over priced crap, too busy worrying about how many presents they have to buy. That's sad.

Commercialism only rules you if you allow it to. Most people do allow it to control them, and thus they have no right to complain. If it truly bothers you, then do something about it rather than throwing words around with no actions involved.
The true meaning of Christmas has not been touched by commercialism. Getting together with family and friends, and showing peace and goodwill toward others has absolutely nothing to do with the retail industry.

The true spirit of Christmas is lost to commercialism only if you let it.
I believe the true meaning of Christmas is Jesus coming to earth to save us, and then love, joy, peace, and generosity, and gathering with family and friends.
Oh, yes--and for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, celebrating/enduring the coming of winter.

In our busy lives it's always nice to find a common time to get with those you care for & love...Christmas is one of those times. I am not so much about the gift-giving thing, since I enjoy this all year as I come across what-nots that remind me of the folks dear to me, however, I love the baking of favorites for each & sharing with all, as well as the hugs & kisses & catching up that is involved with time spent...& the lights--love all the lights--reminds us of what We Are, yes?....this to me is simply grand celebrating of life...wish it could happen more often, but we take what we can get & make the merriest every time...Peace Always & All Ways---Christmas & All Year, too!
P.S. You have to be aware of commercialism--it is everywhere & part of every successful business...getting sucked up into it is the greatest goal of the mktg. dept....be a knowing consumer, not a sucker buyer, YOU be in control...just like anything else in Your life.

It changes for everyone, but yes generally I think it is now all about commercialism and consumerism, as are many things in our culture.
Most cultures around the world that celebrate Christmas do not even have Santa Claus.

Largely, yes.
The true meaning of Christmas for me is the birth of Christ (kind of the whole reason for the season). :) It's about awaiting Christ's birth and then celebrating it once it comes. It's also about being close with family and being generous to those less fortunate than you in all areas in life.

I love Christmas, a lot of people forget what Christmas is all about but too me its a time to remember.
i feel closer to my family and God during this time of year. "most" people are much more cheerfull and open to greetings. there are people that have forgotton what this time of year is all about and they get soooo stressed abt making sure that they buy a present for everyone on there list, i dont worry about it.
smile big and Merry Christmas

Yepopers.
Christmas is to celebrate the life of Christ, man's one hope for forgiveness of sins and returning to the highest glory in heaven. But children judge each other based on who got better gifts. Is it just me, or does anyone else think this is in a way insulting Jesus, and God?
