Yeah i know about Arod and his quarter of a mill contract but he has won MVP and home run and batting titles, has there ever been someone in MLB who has made as money as JD with less to show for it? This was his first ever 100 RBI season.

No, any baseball fan with any bit of knowledge would know that Chan Ho Park was the most overpaid player in baseball.

JD Drew is definitely overpaid though. I really hope Manny sticks it to the Red Sox and tells them that he won't be traded. They'll be stuck with this ridiculous contract AND Manny's as well. The Red Sox shouldn't dare try to sell this guy as a replacement for Manny. Manny is far too valuable even with all of the headaches he gives people.

I would say he is without question the most overpaid player in MLB considering his performance.

He is an average outfielder, at best, and spends quite a lot of time on the disabled list. He has a career avg far less than .300. He is a headache in the lockerroom and a prima donna who has caused teams far more problems than he ever has solved with his presence in the lineup.

Giving JD Drew $70 million dollars will prove to be one of the worst blunders in the history of the game by the time this contract ends.

Without seeing a chart of all that guys and their salaries, I'd agree with you. Its well known that he's often on the DL, but he's also often platooned (probably cause when he is healthy, he's nursing some injury). His number of games played is deceiving; the ABs are the key stat. He's only had more than 500 ABs in a season once. Speaking from Fantasy experience, he often platoons and comes in late as a pinch hitter (very frustrating). He's certainly a good left handed bat that can take a walk every once in a while, but for 14M a year, I'd hope you could get a guy that usually has 600 ABs and will play every day.

Both Chan Ho Park and Mike Hampton were grossly overpayed. Most Yankee players are overpayed as well seeing as New York has spent over $1 billion dollars this century and they have yet to win a World Series this millenium. Although I do not like the Drew deal, it is too early to tell what he'll bring to the Sox.

Ozgard - Red Sox ticket prices will not increase this year, with the exception of "premium" seats. Do your reaserch. "The New Evil Empire?" How original!!!

Gary Matthews Jr, Juan Pierre, Soriano, Carlos Lee, *Barry Zito*, AJ Burnett was a shocker

All free agents that have or will be more overpaid than JD Drew.

Ever? Kevin Brown, R. Johnsons current deal, Chan Ho Park,

There are thousands.

It is quite high, but they all are now. Drew is a good player.

It kinda seems that he is being overpaid for the kind of numbers he's put up in previous seasons. however until major league baseball puts in a salary cap which isn't going to happen anytime soon, players contracts will soar through the roof. Teams that play in large markets (New York, Chicago, L.A...) will continue to push the average salary higher and higher and you will continue to see players who shouldn't be worth 20 million over 5 years getting 20 million for one year. yahoo had a real good article on small market teams using young talent like the marlins and devil rays to stay competitive.

I agree, but is Barry Zito worth 100 million+ for 6 years? I think the salaries this year have been just outrageous and the fans are going to pay for it with higher ticket prices and concession sales. I'm glad to see the new Evil Empire spending those bosox dollars.

I have heard a lot of smart guys say Drew is one of the top all around players when he is healthy. I don't agree with the cost but it is defitely an upgrade over Trot. If you success in 07 and 08 keep Manny.

How 20hrs and 100rbi gets you 14 million dolars a year for 5 years is MIND BOGGLING! I guess Theo Epstein isnt quite the boy genius we thought he was, geeez , wow. but worst ever? no. It does put him on the short list though with Alex Rodriguez, Chan Ho Park, Alex Fernandez, Ed Witson, Kevin Brown, Danny Tartabul, and a few others.

jd drew isn't that good to command that amount of money. this is a typical- boston move they sing a player who is injury pron. it has been said he broke his finger signing his new contract and that he is going to need tommy john surgery at seasons end next year. now that sounds like a guy that deserves 70 million dollars.
