When your friend is feeling down our did something very friendly for you is the most appropriate time.But otherwise always.

Jump on them and hug them when they're turned around, and you can pretend ure trying to scare them by saying boo, when u hug them. My friend (shes a girl, not a guy) hugs me at random times (shes known as a hugger cuz she always hugs people). People also hug me when they're trying to dog pile me. My friends always try to dog pile me, but it hard for them to get me down onto the ground, so they hevta hug me and drag me down. lol

just when oyu feel it is time but if you feel like you want it to be more than dont or else make sure they want more too but when they aere feeling down or just to say hi like i hug my friends who are guys all the time but dont clutch or anything just 123 okay

also when you are happy that they are happy.... maybe they won something or got a good grade and are really happy, you could give them a hug then
