A good way to get an idea when you will begin to menstruate is, to ask your female family members: you mom, sister or aunt.
Why don't talk to your mom or a friend, who already is menstruating. Some women will have pain associated with bleeding but it varies greatly.
This will give a better idea then an answer from Yahoo answers.

It is completely normal for you not to have started your period yet. They can come anywhere between the ages of 8-17. They start about a year after puberty starts. Just enjoy not having to worry about them yet. They're really not bad at all. They are just a little inconvenient sometimes. Don't worry. Periods don't usually hurt, except cramps can a bit. Cramps vary from a mild achey feeling to severe spasms. They occur because the uterus is contracting to squeeze the unwanted tissue (or period blood) out. Some girls rarely get cramps, or never at all. But you can apply heat (eg a hot water bottle) to your stomach to relieve the pain. Also light exercise helps. I like having a long bath if I have a particularly bad one, but most of mine are no problem at all. Good luck!

First off don't be in a rush to get it.. You'll have all the time in world. Your hormones are forever changing.. when its your turn you will get it and when you do you'll be like why did i want this.

Sometimes, when you get your period it does hurt because of PMS. its because hormones send out like and electric charge through your body and just makes you sore.

Some people getting some don't. Unfortualtely... when i get mine it hurts, because your ovaries are in the back of your pelvis, and your utureus is there they expand and push on the spine somtimes.

If you drink raspberry tea which is natural tea as well as drinking cranberry juice.. sometimes.. it supsides those cramps of doom.

Menarche is a girl's first menstrual cycle. A first period usually happens after several years of pubic hair growth, breast development, and rapid growth known as a "growth spurt." Menarche most commonly happens sometime between ages 11 and 14.7

The first menstrual cycles are usually light and unpredictable. During the first 2 years, a typical teenage menstrual cycle can be anywhere from 21 to 42 days long. About 2 out of 3 girls have a regular pattern of menstrual periods within 2 years of menarche.5

Long, heavy periods are fairly common during the teen years. The hormone (endocrine) system is still maturing, and progesterone levels aren't always high enough during regular cycles to help the uterine lining (endometrium) break down. When the endometrium has built up for too long, heavy menstrual bleeding follows. This type of bleeding usually gets better on its own, without treatment. However, see a health professional for menstrual bleeding that lasts longer than 7 days or for cycles that are shorter than 21 days or longer than 42 days. For more information, see the topic Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding.

No one can predict when you're going to get your first period...just about every girl gets anxious about it once their friends start theirs! It was a couple of years after I started puberty before I got mine. You are still pretty young, some people don't get it until their late teens and that is still normal!

cramps vary from person to person, and even period to period for one person! I've had both severe and just mild cramps. The severe ones feel like someone is physically squeezing my uterus, but in more like a spasm way. Mild ones are just a feeling of annoying discomfort, not spasms so much, just kind of a constant gnawing.

Don't get too worried about it though, if you get them, the best thing to do is to take motrin/ibuprofen/alleve/advil type medicine right when you first feel something, and then they shouldn't get too bad.

If you get cramps, then that is the only pain associated with getting your period, they usually just last for a day or two. I get some back discomfort too. It's not uncommon for people to get headaches, diarrhea and nausea for a little bit. they can all be treated before it gets too bad, it's just a matter of getting to know your body. some people don't get any symptoms at all, it's really individual!

the actual blood leaving your body doesn't hurt though. does that answer your questions?

you'll be OK! you really will.

It might hurt, but most likely it will only hurt a little bit - hence, it's called a cramp. From why my chick friends have told me, a girl can get her 1st period anywhere between 12 and 18. So you really have no way of knowing, darling. I have a friend who just turned 13, I'm scared to death to ask her if she got her period. Mostly because she's moody, but I love her like a sister. Basically, don't worry about it, it's completely natural what you're going through, and once you're used to it you'll see I'm right.

Leave that to the nature to process. Never worry about this. Some girls will start only at the age of 18.

Even your hurry may put a psychological pressure and delay the process. You are just 13. You are small baby. Consult your mother and at this age you are not authorised to use Yahoo Answers.

There is no definite time to tell when you are going to get your period. Some girls start at 9, some don't start until late teens. Do you think you could talk to your mom or a female that you can trust in your family or even your school nurse. I just think it would be better to talk directly to someone that you can trust face to face so that you can have all your questions answered. Good luck kiddo.
